The Irony of Fighting Populism


After World War II, Europe rebuilt its parliamentary democracies as a bulwark against the big, authoritarian state. Then Europe used its parliamentary democracies to build a big, authoritarian state. Now this big, authoritarian state has outgrown the parliamentary democracy from which it was born.

Under the guise of fighting populism, the authoritarian state is now trying to sever the ties between itself and the institutions that built it.

Can Liz Cheney and the GOP Save America?

The November U.S. election marked a shift in the ideological balance in our nation's politics. The progressive caucus is now the largest Democrat voting bloc in the House of Representatives, lending big weight to its outright socialist agenda. Back in December I explained the depth of the radicalism that the socialists in that caucus are committed to. Their poster child, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, continues to deliver, explaining that she wants to turn America into another Sweden.

The Libertarian Case Against Legalized Pot

One of the more successful campaigns in the United States in the past couple of decades has been the one to legalize marijuana. As of today, it has reached ten states, and more are likely to come. The question of legalization has been a staple of many libertarian outfits, including the libertarian Institute for Humane Studies (IHS). Their blog Learn Liberty advocates legalization and blurs the line between regular marijuana and its medical derivative. The IHS sponsor events that advocate legalization.
